What
is a kiosk? Kiosks are popping up everywhere. You may have seen
them in airports, visitors' centers, shopping malls, and grocery
stores. In this case it is a computer which is contained in a green
metal enclosure and measures about 2 feet wide by 6 feet tall. It
has a touch-screen monitor instead of a keyboard, and people find
it similar to operating a bank ATM machine. Above the monitor is
a large backlit poster with an assortment of photographs showing
homes with and without wildfire-defensible space.
The
kiosks display an interactive educational program about improving
your home's ability to survive wildfires. Currently, the three sections
in the program are:
-
Are You FireWise?
- Firescaping
- Firewise
Construction
Additional
sections on wildfire behavior and forest health will be added this
year.
The
Wildfire Mitigation kiosks can be seen at different locations in
Alamosa, Durango, Fort Collins, Granby, Grand Junction, and Woodland
Park.
