Forest management agencies urge the public to help prevent wildfires throughout the summer when many people recreate on public forests and grasslands. Above-average wildfire activity is predicted this fire season in many areas, and with drier, warmer weather conditions in the forecast, fire experts are concerned.
State and federal agencies reported that by early May 2008 more than 26,000 acres already had burned in Colorado alone, almost as many acres as were reported in the state in all of 2007.
